Through the generous support of donors, the Colburn School offers merit and financial based scholarships through the Access Fund supporting Herbert Zipper, Amplify, and Need-Based Scholarships. Awards are distributed for the fall and spring semesters; there are no awards for the summer session.
Herbert Zipper Scholarships: This scholarship supports highly-motivated students and gives them the opportunity to engage in comprehensive music education. Recipients are required to take weekly music theory classes and private lessons, as well as participate in an ensemble such as an orchestra and/or chamber ensemble. Herbert Zipper Scholarships are full-tuition scholarships and students MUST be highly dedicated and committed to their musical studies.
Students do not have to reapply for a Herbert Zipper Scholarship. Awardees maintain their scholarship until graduation from high school as long as all requirements are being maintained.
Amplify Scholarships: As part of the Colburn School’s commitment to diversity, the Amplify Scholarship was created to support Black and Latinx students who are traditionally underrepresented in classical music. To be eligible for the scholarship, the student must identify as Black or Latinx, AND have one of the following:
- High artistic merit as determined by the school OR
- Financial need as determined by Community School financial aid requirements. This scholarship is not available to students enrolled in the early childhood program.
Amplify Scholarships are highly competitive awards and are not guaranteed from year to year. Students wishing to receive funding in subsequent years will need to reapply for funding.
Need-Based Scholarships: The Colburn Community School of Performing Arts welcomes students of all ability and experience levels. We recognize that some students may require financial support to cover the cost of their studies. In this case, we offer need-based scholarships for fall and spring semesters.
Need-based scholarships are issued on a sliding scale based on financial need, and they cover between 10-90% of the tuition. Students may apply the award towards 1) a maximum of two group classes, including ensembles OR 2) applied private instruction (up to 60 minutes weekly). Students must reapply each year.
